What We Do

At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, our primary goal is to protect the environment and public health. We do this by ensuring compliance with federal and state environmental laws.

What We Need YOU To Do

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency wants you to be our newest environmental specialist in the Division of Air Pollution Control (DAPC), working at our Central Office in Columbus.

Uh-huh. You’re interested.

As a DAPC environmental specialist, you will evaluate and process permit-to-install (PTI) applications, permit-to-operate (PTIO) applications, and Title V permit applications for all air contaminant emissions units to determine if such emissions units meet state and federal air pollution control regulations. You’ll perform compliance monitoring inspections of air permittees and recommend appropriate actions to be taken based on these inspections. Additionally, you’ll observe and evaluate compliance performance tests conducted by applicants, prepare inspection and site investigation report letters, and assist in the evaluation and processing of variance applications.

You will investigate air pollution complaints, meeting with complainants and source owners to gather information and evidence. You’ll prepare complaint investigation reports and recommend proper actions. You’ll enforce actions against entities violating air pollution regulations. For this, you’ll perform special field investigations to gather evidence, prepare notice of violation letters, recommend approval or disapproval of the data submitted by entities, and provide enforcement support to the Central Office and testify at prehearing conferences, adjudication hearings, and court proceedings.

You’ll review Emissions Fee Reports, Emissions Statement Reports and Emissions Inventory Reports in the STARS system, performing technical review of the data submitted electronically by entities.

Let’s take a beat and review the main points.

  • Review and process applications for PTIO’s, PTI’s, and Title V permits for industrial facilities.
  • Perform compliance inspections on air pollution sources at regulated facilities to determine compliance with air pollution regulations.
  • Prepare inspection reports of findings.
  • Issue appropriate follow-up correspondence.
  • Review data submitted in compliance and fee reports for compliance and accuracy.
  • Perform emissions calculations with emission factors or mass balance procedures when needed.
  • Witness emissions testing events and review related reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Respond to citizen complaints through investigations that document activities and identify potential air pollution issues.
