Job Description

Lanier Technical College - is conducting a search for the following full-time, benefit-eligible, FLSA-exempt, salaried position. POSITION: POLITICAL SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR REPORTS TO: Dean of General Education SALARY: Mid to Upper $60's, depending on education, experience, and qualifications EFFECTIVE: This position is available now RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, develops program and course outlines, goals and objectives; Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited Political Sciences courses; Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives; Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests; Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area; Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students; Assists with student recruitment, retention and job placement efforts. Work with the Dean of General Education to coordinate adjunct instructors; Manages administrative responsibilities related to scheduling, developing syllabi and teaching courses. Other duties as assigned by Dean. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Juris Doctorate OR Master's degree in Political Science OR master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in political science from a regionally accredited college or university. Must work well in the classroom and in supervising diverse students in a variety of settings. TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Ability to work flexible hours – including day and evening hours
  • Ability to teach at any LTC College Campus where political science classes are taught
  • Ability to participate in appropriate staff development and campus activities
  • Ability to supervise students in the classroom
  • Ability to develop and evaluate lesson plans, and select appropriate textbooks
  • Ability to direct and assess students’ progress in achieving required competencies
  • Ability to handle administrative responsibilities related to teaching of courses, data collection, and reporting for accreditation agencies, and the College.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others in a fair and unbiased manner, and to maintain a pleasant, professional relationship with students and faculty/staff
  • Skill in the operation of work-related computers
  • Appropriate oral and written communication skills that effectively communicate information to students who might function at the new, beginning, or advanced level
  • Ability to maintain accurate and organized records, and prepare lesson materials
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Effective decision making and problem-solving skills
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (in addition to minimum and competencies): Experience teaching in a postsecondary environment; Experience teaching via online instruction; Bilingual is a plus.
